Ludwig van Beethoven / The Final Trilogy - Piano Sonatas / Martin Roscoe

“I haven't heard playing from any recent pianist that surpasses Roscoe's...
It is characteristic of Roscoe, as of all the supreme executants, that listening itself becomes a strenuous process...
Roscoe made me feel that [the Sonatas] are related to one another in ways that I have never reaised before.
An outstanding disc in every way.”
BBC Music Magazine, October 2012 *****

“Roscoe senses the schematic but form always yields to musicianship Roscoe's grasp of plaintive mourning
through shrouded tone in una corda and the ultimate release of new life founded in fugal inversion is indescribable.
Experience the message in this marvellously wrought interpretation.”
Gramophone Magazine, Awards Issue 2012

Makes you forget Andsnes his so marketeered Beethoven Journey.
This man is pure music. Having recorder the whole of Szymanowsky, and playing in uncommon repertoire makes him even more special to me.
This is a rare individual in the highly marketeered classical world.
Mr. Roscoe, you made me listen again to Beethoven.

Just a note to say thanks for these three Beethoven shares. So beautiful and excellent for listening. I do appreciate all your efforts and hard work in presenting these works. Again, thanks/Gracias/Danke.

Wonderful, just wonderful. The only pity is that the cycle is still not complete far. On the bright side, there will be more to look forward too :-)

Unfortunately, to the current date, only 4 CDs are available. I think (I hope) the publisher (Deux-Elles) will publish the other sonatas in the near future.

Anton Kuerti and Martin Roscoe are two huge surprises in Beethoven. Fantastic pianists.
I don't even know them. Shame. Thank you, from the heart.

Hm, I am sorry but for me this pianist is STIFF. Among the late sonatas, in this blog my choice goes to Kuerti and Lefebure.
Anyway, thank you for sharing this!
